Crochet Sunflower Jellyfish Pattern
What you’ll need:
- Bernat Blanket Yarn in your choice of color (4 colors needed. Pictured in this pattern are black, white, school bus yellow and teal. I’ve also used baby sand, almond, smokey green and orange leaf as a color combination)
- Medium weight acrylic yarn in black for the eyelashes and smile
- 5 mm hook (I have used a 4.50 mm and a 6 mm on a few of them)
- Safety eyes
- Stuffing (I use the stuffing from a $5 pillow at Walmart)
- Darting needle for sewing in ends (
- Stitch marker (I always use a scrap piece of yarn)
This project is worked in the round meaning you will not be joining to the first stitch. Instead you will work the next stitch of the current round into the first stitch of the previous round. To help keep track of which round you are in place a stitch marker (I just use a scrap piece of yarn) in the first stitch of each new round.
- With white, chain 2, 8 sc in the second chain from the hook. OR you can place 8 sc in a magic circle.
- 2 sc in each stitch. (16)
- Sc in the next, sc inc in the next 8 times. (24)
- Sc in the next 2, sc inc in the next 8 times. (32)
- Sc in the next 3, sc inc in the next 8 times. (40)
- Working in the back loops only, sc in each stitch. (40) This is the ONLY round where we will be working in the back loops.
- Sc in each stitch. (40). Invisible finish or slip stitch to the first sc and finish off. Change to black.
- Attach black to any stitch. Sc in each stitch (40). Invisible finish or slip stitch to the first sc and finish off.
- Attach teal to any stitch. Sc in each stitch.
- Repeat round 9 (40)
- Repeat round 9 (40)
- Repeat round 9 (40)
- Repeat round 9 (40)
- Repeat round 9 (40)
- Sc in the next 3, sc dec 8 times. (32)
- Sc in the next 2, sc dec 8 times. (24)
- Working in the front loops only, sc in each stitch. (24) This is the only round that will be worked in the front loops.
- *Slip stitch in the next 2, 3 half double crochets in the next* Repeat all the way around, ending with 3 hdc in the last stitch. Slip stitch to the first slip stitch. Finish off. Sew in ends.
Embroider eyelashes and smile and attach safety eyes.
Petals
With a slip stitch, attach yellow to the front loops from round 6 from the upper portion. Chain 4, skip 3 front loops, slip stitch in the next. Repeat chaining 4, skipping 3, slip stitching until you’ve reached the first chain 4 space. Slip stitch in the chain 4 space. Chain 1.
In the first chain space complete the following-
*hdc, dc, treble, chain 3 picot, treble, dc, hdc.
Slip stitch in the next chain 4 space and complete the steps above* Repeat for a total of 10 petals. Slip stitch between the first hdc and the chain 1. Finish off and sew in ends.

Bottom Portion
- With teal (or whatever color you used for the body) chain 2, 8 sc in the second chain from the hook.
- 2 sc in each stitch. (16)
- Sc in the next, sc inc in the next 8 times. (24). Slip stitch to the first sc, finish off leaving a long tail for attaching to the upper portion of the jellyfish.
Tentacles
Make 4, one in each color.
Chain 41, 2 sc in the second chain from the hook. 2 sc in each remaining chain. Finish off, leave a tail for attaching to the bottom portion of the jellyfish.

Attach the tentacles to the bottom portion by bringing each end through rounds 2 and 3 with a stitch between the 2 ends. Tie a few knots.
Attaching the bottom portion to the top
Use the long tail from the bottom portion to attach to the top portion by whip stitching through both loops on the bottom portion and into the back loops from round 17 of the top portion. Sew in ends.
