Crochet Hanging Lantern Pattern
What you’ll need:
- 4.50 mm hook
- 8” or 10” wire ring
- acrylic yarn
- darting needle for sewing in loose ends
This pattern is made in multiples of 7 plus 6 so you can make it as big (or as little) as you’d like.
For the 8” ring I chained 111 using Lion Brand Mandala yarn, which is a lighter weight yarn (#3)
For the 10” ring I chained 111 using Red Heart acrylic yarn, which is a heavier weight (#4) yarn compared to the mandala yarn.

Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until you’ve reached your desired length (ending on a repeat of round 2). I made 2 different ones—one with 10 rounds of shells (22 rounds total) and another with 5 rounds of shells (12 rounds total).
Once you’ve reached your desired length, slip stitch to the beginning chain 3. Chain 1, turn your work. Single crochet in each single crochet and chain 7 between each. (See photo below). Turn your work.
Grab your wire ring, 3 single crochet around the chain 7 and the wire ring, single crochet in the top of the 4th dc of the group of 7 (working around the ring and the chain), 3 more single crochet around the chain 7 and ring, 1 single crochet in the sc from the previous around (working around the ring as well).
