Crochet Adult Beanie Pattern
What you’ll need:
- 5.0 mm hook
- Acrylic yarn in 4 colors
- Darting needle for sewing ends
- Scissors
Stitches used:
- Sc- Single crochet
- Ps- Puff stitch
- Dc3tog- Double Crochet 3 togheter
*Puff Stitch- Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pick up yarn and pull through--Repeat this for a total of 4 times. Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook.

Brim
1. Chain 9, single crochet in the second chain from the hook and the remaining chains. (8 sc). Chain 1, turn your work.
2. Single crochet through both loops in the first stitch, single crochet in the back loops only in the next 6, single crochet through both loops in the last stitch. (8 sc). Chain 1, turn your work.
Repeat row 2 for a total of 60 rows or until the band fits around your head (as long as you have an even number of rows).
Fold your band in half and slip stitch the ends together.
2. Single crochet through both loops in the first stitch, single crochet in the back loops only in the next 6, single crochet through both loops in the last stitch. (8 sc). Chain 1, turn your work.
Repeat row 2 for a total of 60 rows or until the band fits around your head (as long as you have an even number of rows).
Fold your band in half and slip stitch the ends together.
Chain 1, flip your band right side out so the slip stitches are on the inside.
NOTE- This pattern is written using the puff stitch, as an alternative you can use the dc3tog (double crochet 3 together), which I was just recently told was also known as the bobble stitch but after 13 years of calling it a dc3tog it's become habit.
You will also notice that we will be turning at the end of each round starting on round 2. The reason we do this is to "push" out the puff stitches. I have posted 2 pictures below, one with turning at the end of each round and one not turning at the end of each round. It is completely up to you, either way the beanie turns out beautiful!

1. Single crochet on the end of each row. Slip stitch to the first sc. (60 sc)
2. Chain 1, single crochet in the same stitch. Repeat the following all the way around—chain 1, skip one, single crochet in the next— Slip stitch to the first single crochet, drop the color your using and pick up the new color with a slip stitch (see photo below). Chain 1, turn your work.
3. Single crochet in the first single crochet. Repeat the following all the way around—Puff stitch in the chain 1 space, single crochet in the next stitch— Slip stitch to the first single crochet. Do not change color. Chain 1, turn your work.
4. Single crochet in first single crochet. Repeat the following all the way around— chain 1, skip the next (skipping the puff stitch), single crochet in the next (in the single crochet from the previous round)— Slip stitch to the first single crochet. Change color with your slip stitch.
Repeat rounds 3 through 4 for a total of 5 times (total of 14 rounds). Making sure you’re ending on a repeat of round 4. Do not turn your work on the last round or from here on out.
15. Change to the color you used for your brim. Slip stitch into the chain space. Chain 1, 2 single crochet in each chain space all the way around. Slip stitch to the first single crochet. (60 sc).
16. Chain 1, single crochet in the same stitch. Repeat the following all the way around—skip the next stitch, single crochet in the next— Slip stitch to the first single crochet. (30 sc).
17. Chain 1, single crochet decrease 15 times. Slip stitch to the first single crochet. (15 sc).
18. Chain 1, single crochet in the same stitch. Repeat the following all the way around— single crochet decrease, single crochet in the next— Slip stitch to the first single crochet. Cut off yarn and sew up the hole. (10 sc).
