Crochet 3D Sunflower Granny Square Pattern
What you’ll need:
- Cotton Yarn in brown, gold and turquoise
- 4.50 mm hook
- Scissors
- Darting needle for sew in loose ends
I have posted how to videos throughout this pattern. I have noticed that when the videos are being watched outside of using the app they are somewhat blurry and I do apologize for that, I’m working on it. But they are crystal clear if you watch them using the YouTube app (by no means am I endorsing YouTube, I just haven’t figured out why they are blurry outside of the app). I believe you can change the “quality settings” from 240 to 720. It may just be my old outdate phone that won’t update. Hahah

**How to work a Beg. Dc3tog-
Chain 3. Yarn over and insert hook into same stitch as chain 3. Yarn over and pull through. Yarn over, pull through 2. Yarn over insert hook back into same stitch. Yarn over, pull through. Yarn over, pull through 2. Yarn over pull through all loops. Chain 1 to close.
**How to work a dc3tog-
Yarn over and insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on your hook). *Yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops* Repeat between *-* one more time. Yarn over and pull through all loops. Chain 1 to close.

Chain 3. Yarn over and insert hook into same stitch as chain 3. Yarn over and pull through. Yarn over, pull through 2. Yarn over insert hook back into same stitch. Yarn over, pull through. Yarn over, pull through 2. Yarn over pull through all loops. Chain 1 to close.
**How to work a dc3tog-
Yarn over and insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on your hook). *Yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops* Repeat between *-* one more time. Yarn over and pull through all loops. Chain 1 to close.
1. 6 single crochet in a magic circle OR chain 4, slip stitch to the first chain to form a loop, chain 1, 6 single crochet in the loop. You can watch my magic circle tutorial here.
2. 2 single crochet in each stitch (12 sc)
3. Sc in the first, sc inc in the next. Repeat the following 5 times—1 sc, sc inc. (18 sc)
4. 1 Sc in the first, 1 sc in the next, sc inc the next. Repeat the following 5 times—1 sc in the next two stitches, sc inc in the next. (24 sc). Slip stitch to the first sc and chain 3 (chain 3 counts as a dc)
5. 2 dc in the same stitch as the beginning chain 3. **Chain 1, skip 1 stitch, 3 dc in the next.** Repeat between **-** until you’ve reached you’re beginning chain 3. Slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.
6. Chain 3 (counts as a dc). Complete a beginning Dc3tog (instructions above and my video tutorial for this round is here) half treble in the skipped stitch from round 5, chain 1. **Dc3tog over the next 3 dc, half treble in the skipped stitch from round 5, chain 1** Repeat between **-** until you’ve reached the first Dc3tog. Slip stitch.
7. Chain 1, sc in the same space (top of the Dc3tog) **Chain 4, sc on top of the next Dc3tog** make sure you’re skipping the half treble and the chain 1 space from the previous round. Repeat between **-** until you’ve reached your first single crochet. Slip stitch. (12 chain 4 spaces)
8. We will be working behind the chain 4 spaces from the previous round. Chain 1, push your chain 4 forward and sc in the half treble from the previous round. **Chain 3, sc in the half treble from the previous round** Repeat between **-** until you’ve reached your first single crochet. Slip stitch. Tie off yarn.
9. Watch my tutorial on this round here. Attach yellow with a slip stitch, chain 1 in any chain 4 space from round 7 (the chain spaces you pushed forward) and **complete the following in the chain space—Hdc, dc, half treble, chain 2, half treble, dc, hdc— single crochet in single crochet round 7 (base of your chain 4)**. Repeat between **-** a total of 12 times. Slip stitch between the beginning chain 1 and the first hdc. Cut off yarn. Option- Rather than a chain 2 after your half treble you can complete a picot. Simply chain 3 or 4, slip stitch to the first chain.
10. Attach new color to any chain 3 space (from round 8). Chain 4, 2 half trebles in the same space, chain 2, 3 half trebles in the same space, chain 1 (first corner made). **3 double crochet, chain 1 in the next 2 chain spaces, complete the following in the next chain space—3 half treble, chain 2, 3 half treble, chain 1 (corner made)** Repeat between **-** until you’ve reached the beginning chain 4. 11. Chain 3 (counts as a dc), dc in the next 2 stitches. You should now be at the corner chain 2 space. Complete the following in the chain 2 space—3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc. Double crochet in the next 3, you should now be at the chain 1 space from the previous round, complete a half treble in the single crochet from round 9 (the last round of brown). Double crochet in the next 3, half treble in the single crochet from round 9. Double crochet in the next 3, half treble in the single crochet from round 9. Double crochet in the next 3. You should now be at your corner chain 2 space. Complete the following in the chain 2 space-- 3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc.
We will be crocheting in each stitch until you’ve reached the chain 1 space, (3 dc between each half treble) then half treble in the sc from round 7. You should have 3 half trebles between each corner. Repeat this until you’ve reached your corner spaces and complete the following— 3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc. Slip stitch to the first beginning chain 3.
Don’t forget to complete the last half treble before the beginning chain 3.
We will be crocheting in each stitch until you’ve reached the chain 1 space, (3 dc between each half treble) then half treble in the sc from round 7. You should have 3 half trebles between each corner. Repeat this until you’ve reached your corner spaces and complete the following— 3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc. Slip stitch to the first beginning chain 3.
Don’t forget to complete the last half treble before the beginning chain 3.
12. Chain 3 (counts as a dc) dc in the next 5 (you should be at the corner space now) complete the following in the corner chain 2 space— 3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc. Double crochet in the next 6 (you should now be at your first half treble from the previous round). Front post double crochet around the half treble. Double crochet in the next 3, front post double around the treble. Double crochet in the next 3, front post double around the treble. Double crochet in the next 6, you should now be at your second corner, complete the following in the corner chain 2 space— 3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc.
We will be double crocheting in each stitch, front post double crochet around the half treble from the previous round (do not double crochet in this stitch) and completing the following in each corner chain 2 space-- 3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc. Repeat this until you’ve reached the beginning chain 3. Slip stitch. You should have 3 front post double crochets between each corner.
We will be double crocheting in each stitch, front post double crochet around the half treble from the previous round (do not double crochet in this stitch) and completing the following in each corner chain 2 space-- 3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc. Repeat this until you’ve reached the beginning chain 3. Slip stitch. You should have 3 front post double crochets between each corner.
13. Repeat round 12. Thete are only 2 differences between this round and round 12 There will be 9 double crochets after the corner and 9 double crochets after the last front post before your reach the other corner rather than the 6 double crochets from round 12.

14. Chain 1 and sc in the same stitch. Sc in each stitch until you’ve reached the corner chain 2 spaces, in each corner complete the following— sc, chain 2, sc. Continue single crochets in each stitch and sc, chain 2, sc in each corner. Slip stitch to the first sc.
15. We will be working through back loops only. Chain 1, sc in each stitch until you’ve reached the corner. In each corner chain 2 space complete the following—sc, chain 2, sc. Slip stitch to the first sc. This is the only round we will be working in the back loops. You can find my video on how to single crochet in the back loops here.
16. Chain 1, sc in each stitch until you’ve reached the corners. 3 single crochet in each corner chain 2 space. Slip stitch to the first single crochet. Cut off yarn. Sew in ends.
I suggest blocking your work to give it straighter edges and make it look more like a square. Mine is still on the blocking mat.
